a few more of the s family/minneapolis natural light photographer

as i previously posted…mom S contacted me and we had basically a 24 hour time period to get her shoot in/done…and we met december 26th…you see her three kiddos were all home for the holiday, they traveled home from california and colorado! here are just a few more of my favorites:) this is a fabulous idea…book a shoot when your kiddos are home…hint, hint! she has her christmas card images for next year now:)

it was a howling good time…rocco howls when his family howls…we had a fun time in the alleys:)

new year resolutions/minneapolis natural light photographer

just a quick personal note as it is the first day of 2012. as i get older i feel like resolutions have become more important to me personally. this year todd/i are faced with even more health issues of our parents…and have seen others our own age pass away. life is short and 2012 is one year that i want to cherish, work on my own health-both physical and mental, and truly enjoy the family members around me-before i know it my kids will be out of the house! therefore, my personal resolutions are:

eat less, move more
work less, sleep more
nag less, smile more

***wish me luck!

sneak peek for the hess girls/minneapolis natural light photographer

good morning and happy new year to all of you out there:) todd is not feeling well but the kids and i headed across the street to our neighbors for a little new years eve party/the kids played video games and swam in their indoor pool and the adults just hung out in the kitchen:) todd actually stayed home last night due to body aches, chills, and fever so i brought in the new year hugging/kissing the kids instead!

anyways…here are two quick sneak peeks of the h girls, the rest of their edits will be later this week:) taken inside my studio in mpls-perfect for a valentines day card i think:) more to come!

valentines day boudoir special/minneapolis boudoir photographer

see the latest special…booking now, monday through friday appointments at this special price in january! holler if you have any questions. these can take place in my studio, your home, or outside:)

sneak peek for nancy/minneapolis natural light photographer

these three kiddos traveled home for christmas and we did their shoot december 26th as it was the only day that worked for them. here is just a sneak peek for their mom:) more to follow soon! i love their bright colored clothing…very fun!

bob/head shots and more/minneapolis natural light photographer

bob met me at the studio this past week for a typical head shot for his work/twitter, etc and of course i don’t do a lot of typical head shots, so i encouraged him to go outside with me as well to get some “regular” shots as well:) here are just a few of my favorites from my time with him! we had a gorgeous day in the 40′s but it was pretty darn windy-but i don’t think you can tell from these photos! honestly…there is nothing like natural light outdoors in my opinion.

***i will put up pricing for typical contemporary head shots on my website for 2012:) just an fyi for those of you that want a new image for facebook, work, etc.

also…my left eye is still a bit irritated but the redness is gone. i think it will be okay:)

shelley

to my clients/minneapolis natural light photographer

i am embarrassed to say that this week i was cleaning things up under our christmas tree the other morning and i must have gone down too fast as i got something pokey to my eyeball on my way down and i honestly have no idea what it was. embarrassing to admit:) all i know is that my eyeball had some extreme pain and i hollered out and my eye was all watered up…today was my second day in which my eye ball on the left eye/left side has been all red and inflammed a bit? i am going about my daily life as normal as i can this week with my kiddos home from school…today ortho and doctor appointments, etc but i also rested my eye for a few hours this afternoon by trying to nap. i will get to edits this weekend, i promise. if the redness and soreness does not go down overnight i will make an eye doctor for me for tomorrow afternoon-it does scare me a bit, as you cannot mess with the eyes!

just a friendly fyi…i feel like a clutz, but this is real life:) it happened to me…and i honestly am not sure if it was a branch or what that i got to my eyeball. whatever it was, i didn’t see it coming. huge pain with the poke of it though to my left eye in the left corner. yikes:)

good night!

back to work/minneapolis natural light photographer

i have to admit that even though i haven’t been shooting much this december, i still felt crazy busy. the studio is taking up lots of my time as are the kids. it was nice to have some free time to prepare for christmas…and christmas was okay, but i will be honest and say that we have had better:) it just stinks a bit as our parents are aging and we have health issues on both sides with our parents. plus, christmas is not the same now that my kids don’t “believe”…and my kids were a bit more whiny as they got a ton of clothes-which were needed:) they both have grown like weeds this fall and hardly anything fits them…it’s pretty bad when even dad says ” Logan needs clothes this weekend, he has nothing to wear”. We actually surprised Logan with a small tv for his playstation room as he has been playing on an old picture tube that we got before we got married in 1990 and it fades in and out. Having said that, the new tv that we got him has a much slower response time? so, we have been dealing with a slightly pouty boy…with a new tv, frustrated as he is getting used to it. less complaining today…todd adjusted something on the tv so he is able to play modern warfare more like he used to? just not what we were expecting…we thought newer tv, faster response time/better gaming…but we were wrong?

today…i was at the studio…back at work:) and i will be starting 2012 with some fun boudoirs…so be on the lookout for those next week! my new pricing/packages will be up in january too…i have quite a few requests this past week for booking for those in 2012…love that:)

anyways..i don’t typically do head shots, but bob is bev’s husband…one of my delightful boudoir clients of 2011 so i couldn’t say no to him/them as i was going to already be at the studio for a family session. he was just as nice as his wife:):):)love that! i did some basic head shots inside the studio and it was almost 50 degrees so we did a few outside as well/my love as you all know:)

here is a sneak peek before i hit the bed tonight of bob. as handsome as he is nice:) this is for you, bev! i know you are peeking:)

special teenager/minneapolis natural light photographer

***before i hit the bed tonight i promised that i would announce the winner of a free mini shoot with me. a special tween/teen that is so deserving of this and i contacted the winner on the phone yesterday and drum roll please…the winner of the free mini shoot with me is Avery Pilot. I received two nominations on why she is so darn special and she could use some special attention…and i cannot wait to spend some time with her next month or in february-whatever date we find that works for both of us:) congrats avery!!! i will share some of what was written about her when i am posting images from her actual photo shoot with me, so be on the lookout for that!

on a side note…lots of birthday wishes for me on facebook, regular emails and phone calls today:) thank you so much!!!

big day yesterday/orono natural light photographer

underneath all of this make up is my 14 year old, allie! she decided to join the orono dance team this winter-with much prompting from mom:) i will be honest and say that i am not a gymnastics lover and with 11 years of summit/recreational dance, this just seems like a much better fit:) she kept saying she was doing this dance stuff for me-with typical teenager attitude…but her attitude has recently changed:):):)LOL she made the junior varsity team and yesterday was her first competition in maple grove. she is now stating that she is having tons of fun and is loving it:) and i am no longer being blamed…”i was right”…gotta love that! anyways, her team won 2nd place for jv jazz and it was a fun, fun day! orono’s varsity team also came home with two trophies…this is fantastic! very proud of these girls:)

personal images/minneapolis natural light photographer

Hello to all of you out there today taking a peek at my blog! My weekend project is working on personal images and I will be honest and say that this is the first time I have really been able to do this since last June and it feels good! I have gotten a few requests from baseball parents to see what I captured the few times I took my camera to the field. I will be honest and say that I don’t take a camera very often for various reasons: i am not a sports photographer and i honestly would love different equipment if i was one, the lighting is usually not idea-very bright sunlight, sitting and watching is my time off from work, and my paying clients have priority over my personal stuff and baseball season is in the midst of my absolute crazy senior time. anyways, i am plugging away and hope to have some baseball images edited and uploaded for the baseball parents to order prints if they choose to do so, no pressure from me:) i know two parents are patiently waiting…you know who you are:) be on the lookout for more orono baseball pics to follow!

i LOVE baseball:) it is my favorite sport to watch. i love being outside, i think it is logan’s strongest sport-he understands and loves the game, todd loves the sport and enjoys coaching so i get to see them doing their love together:) note: see todd in the background of this picture! this picture is nothing spectacular…but as a parent i just love his cute, little athletic butt…i love that todd is in the dugout in the background, and i love the smirk/smile on logan’s face:) perfectly imperfect!

studio update/minneapolis natural light photographer

omg, where have i been lately? what i have i been doing? why i am i not blogging? i am telling you…all studio/personal stuff. as many of you know, i took over a new studio october 1 and lots of my spare time has been spent there. i cannot afford this studio myself…i have done a ton of work to get it to my liking and it has a ways to go as well. taking on this studio has added 20-40 hours a week so far. i am happy to say that i have three sub leasers on board now and that is all i want for the winter:):):):)they will help me out with the rent and i can keep making the studio even better with their rent help! i have shared a studio two times before…and each and every time i learned something new/ what worked and what didn’t work…and i am excited about the three photographers that i have on board! i have learned that no commercial studio is perfect and being so type A this has been tough on me as i want everything perfect for me, my clients, and my sub leasers and their clients. but, there is only so much i can control as well! my hope was to be promoting my business this winter and shooting a ton…but the weeks just keep going by and all is okay. i don’t have a shoot until 12/26 now and that is just perfect:) i AM excited for 2012 and the changes the studio will help me make…

my awesome sub leasers after meeting, interviewing and showing the space numerous times are:
alli jagoda
gwendolyn waite
and kevin wood

i have never shared with a male before…but i know kevin is going to be a great fit:)

nominate that special tween/teen-my holiday gift

***just a friendly repost! so far i have received 5 nominations! keep them coming:)

i will be giving away one FREE mini session with 8-10 custom edited images to one special tween/teen. i want to hear why he/she is so special, i want to hear why he/she deserves this special gift:) i will choose the winner of this shoot on my birthday, december 23rd. the shoot must be completed in january or february at my studio in mpls. i know that there are so many remarkable tweens/teens out there…someone who has had a rough year or who always puts others first. let me hear about it! one lucky winner:) very excited to be doing this! my regular email address for submissions is:

shelley_m_anderson2001@yahoo.com or you can send me a private message off of facebook:) My first submission came in this morning…

favorite holiday card cards/minneapolis natural light photographer

I have spent a few hours today trying to decide what i am going to do for our holiday card. it is such a big decision when you are in the photography business. this year i feel sort of blah about it all…my great friend, robin, has designed my holiday cards the past few years for me and has offered to do the same again for me…i’m lucky. it’s hard to see myself in photos too…i honestly prefer to be behind the camera, i get that from my mom in a big, bad way:) last year i loved the junk yard theme that we did as it was something different… anyways, so far i have designed a card myself using a template on pear tree greetings AND buying a card template from a pro company so robin can do her thing for me:) i love sending cards out but know that most people throw them away right away as well…ho hum. see, i am feeling blah today:) anyways…my point here is that i was going to share that my favorite card companies are: tiny prints, pear tree greetings and minted! check them out if you haven’t already designed your card!

more of the c kiddos/minneapolis natural light photographer

it has been one heck of a crazy week over here and i plugged away at their edits between everything else this week:) i love repeat clients…i did tyler’s senior pics last year and also the whole family last fall for their holiday cards! here are just a few of my favorites from their time with me at my studio and outside my studio for your viewing! i know that they have been anxiously waiting:)

happy thanksgiving/minneapolis natural light photographer

i have been involved in many community service projects this month with logan-feed my starving children, miracle for hoops with the handicapped, salvation army bell ringing and a sporting equipment drive for the boys and girls club…and i honestly hope to get my kids doing something else over christmas break as it’s sooooo good for them:) i have so many things to be thankful for…

my health-my boob squeeze came back normal this past week:)
my family-i honestly couldn’t imagine living without my husband at my side nor my kids!
my house
food on the table
my job-i love photography, i honestly love it…i couldn’t imagine doing anything else. i am blessed with so many fab clients:) and i am giddy to have a new studio! we just discussed my job tonight and todd said that i made the right decision…way back when i thought about starting my own photography business OR a food catering service/prepare meals in peoples homes…as i do love to cook as well…but i can honestly say that i know i made the right decision…photography works perfectly with me/my family. i love taking the pics and i love editing the pics…and capturing memories for my clients:)
my friends

life is always chaotic on this end…but i know that in 6 years todd and i will be bored silly with the kids off to college…i struggle with all the chaos at times, especially all of the homework demands on our kids these days…but i am thankful that my kids are getting a great education:)

have a super night!

sneak peek for deb/minneapolis natural light photographer

get ready…a repeat family next…the C kiddos:) and here is just one of them…miss A and i honestly didn’t know if i’d get to any of their images yet tonight, but here is one. i don’t think her mom would care me sharing that she frantically rang me at 5:30 tonight and she left her anniversary band to her wedding ring in my bathroom at my studio. i actually saw it in there when i was leaving the studio, but i thought it was an earring and costume jewelry from a recent boudoir…so i just left it there as i was in a hurry. my family booked downtown tonight and her anniversary band was still in the same place. WHEW! (and then we ate hibachi on the way home and it took half the night) luckily the other half of the 4th floor is currently vacant and we both had seen the cleaning guy on my floor during the shoot. anyways, i emailed her earlier tonight stating that i wouldn’t have a sneak peek tonight…but, i lied and here is one quick one anyways:) i also called her and told her i have her band and that it would be at my house for safe keeping…i do believe she is coming for it on monday:)

anyways… sooc and my two edits of A…i can’t decide whether i like the color or the bw better. hmmmm! be on the lookout for the other three kiddos next week…and everyone have a fabulous turkey day!

11.20.11/minnetonka tourni-3rd place

a big basketball weekend for us. logan’s team won third place today in the minnetonka tournament…woot, woot! i missed both games last night to attend a dance social for the parents…but was there for the big win this morning. logan had an awesome game…one of his best games ever:) it was a great team win! i did not take these two photos, our team coordinator did…i cannot take the credit as i was lazily sitting there watching the game and chatting with those around me:)

just a few more of jacob/minnetonka senior 2012/minneapolis senior photographer

Here are just a few of my personal favs from my time with jacob/minnetonka 2012. i thoroughly enjoyed working with him and his mom, very nice people! we had a slightly chilly day, but not bad for mid october, we got lucky.

the M family/minneapolis natural light photographer

Here are some of my favorites from the M family shoot near my studio. I love when a client comes with a few ideas of their own and I just heard from Tami that she loves the shot of their walking down the alley the best:) It was her request and I am glad that i captured it to her liking…we had to time it and i was trying hard to not get cars in the street in the background:) cutie pie girls and adding finley to a few pictures made the shoot a lot of fun!

one more jacob sneak peek/minnetonka 2012/minneapolis senior photographer

my tallest senior to date. jacob is 6 foot 7 inches:) this one of his more serious images!

as a photographer…i am not going to lie…it is a bit tougher to get comfortable looking positions when one is as tall as jacob:) one thing that i have found that helps is that we did his shoot this month/fall weather and he wore all long sleeved clothes and full length pants:)

more to follow real soon! come on back:)

one more sneak peek from the M family shoot/minneapolis natural light photographer

here is one more from the M family shoot, i honestly hope to have a full blown album posted by tomorrow:) so check back in!

what else do i know? crazy busy with life…kids…studio…basketball…it’s all good:)

i need to edit jacob’s images next…but here is the kicker. i bought a new monitor for home so i can take my old one to the studio and i work by editing with my laptop plugged into my monitor. go figure, my spyder 2 which i calibrate with does not work with windows 7. soooooo, i went out and bought the spyder 3 today so now all is good. i can now edit again:) i had a take a couple days off!

anyways…one more from the M family shoot! cutie pies!

studio pics/still a work in progress/minneapolis natural light photographer

okay all, i have not wanted to share too many pics of the studio as it truly is a work in progress. but, it probably will still be a work in progress a year from now, so i guess i might as well share:) as it stands right now i have two phenomenal photographers joining me as sub leasers starting 12.1.11 and i am looking for one more perfect fit! spread the word:) first come, first serve!

sitting room in the middle of the studio, wall of windows to the east!

another view of the sitting room, this time you can see the north room as well…white brick to the north and reddish brick to the west and south

full wall of windows to the west, where you see the tile is the roughed in kitchenette-so far all it has in it is a frig, a microwave and a wine rack:)

the sitting area as you enter the studio from the hall. i think i will paint the doors charcoal to match the walls? the doors look much worse in this picture than they do in person?!?!?

anyways, i am very excited about this all and i’m glad to share this with my friend/family/clients/ and regular blog followers as it is a big part of my life:)
